Michael Pepe, P.E.

AERONAUTICAL ENGINEER | Download CV |

Mr. Pepe holds a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University and an M.S. degree in Aeronautics and Astronautics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.  He is a registered Professional Engineer in Indiana, Ohio and Illinois.

Mr. Pepe has been an invited lecturer on accident reconstruction by the Indiana Bar Association, Society of Automotive Engineers and has appeared nationally as a faculty member for the Practicing Law Institute.  Mr. Pepe has more than 12 years of experience with the U.S. Navy in designing and developing missile guidance systems, and developing computer flight simulations.  Mr. Pepe was involved in developing the terminal sensor platform for the Tomahawk cruise missile.  He was the project engineer in charge of flight testing and analysis of inertial flight data for the Tomahawk guidance system.  He directed technical improvements based on his analysis of flight dynamic data.  He has participated in the design and development of aircraft avionics navigation and control systems, closed-loop servo systems, optical sensors and pattern recognition algorithms.  Mr. Pepe has drawn on his prior experience simulating missile guidance systems in developing the simulation and computer models of our magnetic restraint system and the helicopter cabin.  This experience includes laboratory analysis and development as well as field evaluation.

In other areas, Mr. Pepe has analyzed occupant dynamics during vehicle crashes, and preformed analysis of the aerodynamic properties of racecars. His experience involves vehicular accident reconstruction, computer graphic simulation and stress analysis.  Mr. Pepe has also developed a computerized analysis package for determining dimensional information from accident photographs.  He has published several scientific papers on the subject which have been presented to the American Academy of Forensic Sciences and the Society of Automotive Engineers. He currently maintains membership in the American Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing and is a provisional member of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences.
