Photogrammetry & Digital Rectification
Photogrammetry
Wolf Technical Services has developed and refined a technique called Photogrammetry which allows actual dimensions to be taken from photos. Computer Photogrammetry is a process capable of reconstructing depth from almost any set of pictures. Like the eye, the computer must gauge the similarities and differences between pictures to reconstruct the depth. In order to measure objects, the computer needs some known real-world measurements to contrast with the information taken from the photos. A scale factor can then be established between the photographic image and the real world. For example, if the photogrammetrist is asked to find the position of a vehicle that has been involved in a collision, he may use the width of the street lanes as a known value. The computer then uses the information to establish the position of the vehicle.
Digital Rectification
Wolf Technical Services can process photographs in order to display desired features more clearly. Digital Rectification is an image processing service that rotates an image from one perspective to another. Throughout the process all photogrammetric data integrity and dimensions are maintained for every point in the picture. Rather than talking about what the computer had calculated in the photographic image, you can show the image from the correct perspective using Digital Rectification.
